A year ago today you were taken from us
Words are inadequate, pathetic things to use
To try to express the loss we feel
They can't convey the intensity of our love
Or the depth of our despair now that you are gone

You were our only daughter, the sunshine of our lives
Your blue sparkling eyes, your cheeky dimpled grin
Your happy, vivacious nature
Your intelligence
We were so proud of you
We thought you were destined for greatness

But then you died
We have now passed your 11th birthday
And our first Christmas without you
Every event is another ordeal to be endured,
Every girl we see only serves to remind us of our loss
And our tears are always just a thought away

A part of our future died with you Sarah
And left a big black void which cannot be filled
Until we meet again
