The local Lions International organisation gives out awards each year to Children of Courage Sarah was nominated by her Nurses on Ward 9A at Princess Margaret Hospital and she was so excited at the thought of dressing up in a new outfit and getting up in front of all those people. The awards were presented at Government House by Mrs Ruth Reid, the wife of the former State Governor, on Sunday April 28, 1996. The following was read to the hundreds of people present as Jean and Brian collected the award for Sarah. " Today we are very sadly presenting a posthumous award to this very brave and courageous young lady who sadly passed away some four weeks ago. Sarah lost her battle with the disease Cystic Fibrosis. On contacting her parents in regard to the presentation , they indicated that they would like it to proceed, and her parents will accept the award on her behalf. Throughout her short life, Sarah sufferred with severe chest infections and recently underwent surgery to implant a more permanent IV access. She accepted her problems with the maturity of someone three times her age, gaining the respect of everyone around her. She received magnificent support from her family, relatives and her school friends. Sarah will be sadly missed....... |
